Photographs of Garden Features

The query program (in Ideas Genie) can be used to extract plants with particular Cultivation conditions and/or specific properties.

The database serves to illustrate how YOU can document YOUR National Trust Garden and garden areas, and the plants in those areas.

About this database.
This database is an insight into the gardens of very knowledgable plantsmen.

Knox Gass and Amyan Macfadyen have huge gardens, largely maintained singe handed. They also devote much time and effort to the National Trust.

I feel priviliged that these gentlemen afforded me so much of their valuable time to photograph their gardens and document the names of the plants as each photograph was taken.

No problems with plant names in these photo shoots. Knox had a large lever arch file filled with his garden plans and every plant was well documented.
Knox grows many rare and unusual plants, which really have to be seen to be appreciated.
His 2.5 acre garden has a number of levels and differing areas so virtually any plant can be found favoured growing conditions. Features are a 100ft double herbacious border, woodland, fernery and wild garden.

Prof Amyan Macfadyen has a 2.5 acre riverside, town garden, with trees, shrubs, old fashioned roses, herbacious plants, alpine scree, ferns, pond vegetables and fruit. Also a new garden on a hillside.

An enjoyable experience for me, and a pleasure to be in the company of horticultural experts.

About the national Trust in N Ireland
