Recording Events

Now to introduce you to one of the the most important features in using specimens with Ideas Genie Pro - Events.

There are two types of events

  • Automatically created events
  • Manually created Events

Automatically created Events
Ideas Genie does another important action behind the scenes each time you click the Done on button in the Status screen of the tasks program - an event is automatically created.

Lets look at one of the events created in our examples in the previous lesson

By updating the task in the previous session, Ideas Genie Pro has already created an event for you, for each item marked as “Completed” of done.

  • Start the program Tasks - GA047
  • Since your task is finished, remember to click All or Finished Only so that the task can be listed
  • Select your finished task
  • Click the Status button
    Screen GA047S07 appears
    Screenshot 1e-ga047s07
  • Screen GA100S23 appears, showing the Event record created as a result of finishing this task
    Screenshot 2e-ga100s23
Note that Ideas Genie recorded the event as Sowed
This description comes from the Done Description for this care item as entered in GA011S01 Screenshot 1-ga011s01
  • You can edit the Event if you wish to add notes
  • Click on the Task on the Events list and click the Edit button
    Screen GA100S26 appears
    Screenshot 3e-ga100s26
  • Edit your notes and click the Save changes button
    Screen GA100S23 reappears

Manually created Events
The majority of events in the life of a specimen are recorded manually.
To manually record events you must create Plant Care Classifications as shown in this Screenshot.

Here we will demonstrate how to record the Germination date for our sowings

You can add or edit specimens and create events manually using any of programs which allow you to access the Plant Profile screen. In this session we will use GA029

  1. Start the program Specimens GA029
  2. In the initial screen GA029S01
    Screenshot 5e-ga029s01
Use the pop-ups to select a Gardener and a Garden Area
(Select a Gardener and a Garden Area which has at least one Vegetable specimen added)
Note that there are six tabs under two headings which offer alternative methods to display and select plants and specimens in your database.
  3. Under the heading Specimens in this Garden click the tab This Garden Area
The list of specimens for that selection appears
  4. Click in the list to select a specimen
  5. Click the Specimen Events button
The Specimen Profile screen GA100S23 appears
    Screenshot 6-ga100s23
  6. In screen GA100S23
Click the Add an Event button
    Screen GA100S26 appears

    In screen GA100S26
  7. Select the Event Germinated from the Events pop-up
Note that the events listed in this pop-up were added using GA011
    Screenshot 7e-ga100s26
  8. Select a date for the event using the Calendar control
Note that each time you click a date in the calendar, the date appears in the Event date field
  9. Enter any additional information in the details notes in the Notes about this Event field
  10. Click the Add button
    Screen GA100S23 re-appears

    In screen GA100S23
Your new event is listed in the Summary of Events for this Specimen list
    Screenshot 8e-ga100s23
Note the (M) appended to the event details
    (M) indicates that the event was added Manually
Events added automatically when you finish a task (see above) are appended with the Task Number prefixed with # (in this screenshot it is #6)

Editing an Event
You can add or edit specimens and create events manually using any of programs which allow you to access the Plant Profile screen. In this session we will use GA029

  • Follow steps 1 to 5 in Manually created Events above
  • In screen GA100S23
    Screenshot 9e-ga100s23
  • Click in the Summary of Events for this Specimen list
  • Click the Edit button
    Screen GA100S26 appears
    Screenshot 10e-ga100s26
  • You can use the pop-up to change the event type for Manually added events
    NOTE:
You cannot change the Event type for Events which were automatically created by the Tasks program
  • You may edit or add more notes about the event
  • You may change the Event Date
  • Click Save Changes
